Mount Adams Cycling Ride Details

Season-Opening Membership Ride (for New & Returning Members and Guests) (3-20)

Start out the season with a new or renewed membership ($20 individuals/$25 couples) and renewed friendships (priceless) Saturday March 20, 2010.  We’ll start the gathering process and registration/paperwork at noon and visit with friends around coffee.  Meet and greet, check out the newest bikes and get ready to ride the first official 2010 ride.  12:00 Registration; 12:30-12:45 short group riding clinic for new riders; 1:00pm depart on ride.  We’ll ride the Naches Loop (24 miles) counterclockwise.  No one gets dropped; we regroup in Naches.  Pace is variable with  road bikes recommended.

MAC Spring Membership Meeting (3-24-10)

Join us Wednesday, March 24 at 6:45pm in the Carson Room at the YMCA for our annual membership meeting.  Our President, Carla Andringa, will present MAC’s plan for the year including rides and community activities, review our financial position and goals, and discuss our plans for ordering club clothing this year.  There will be time for members to ask questions and/or share concerns; dessert and beverages will be served.

Paceline Clinic (3-29-10)

Learn new (or refresh your old) paceline skills at this evening clinic hosted by Donna Smith.  Join us with your bike out at the Ahtanum Business Park at 6:00pm.  Donna will review safety basics and technical skills of riding in a paceline, followed by small group practice in riding pacelines.  This class is intended for beginner and intermediate riders, but experienced riders are encouraged to attend as well to help demonstrate effective paceline riding.  Cookies and beverages will be provided.

Wenas Lake Loop (4-10-10)

Host:  TBA
Distance:  ~45 miles plus optional 11 mi add-on from Naches to the “Y”
Departure Time:  8:00am (tentative)
Pace:  14-17+

From the Fred Meyer/Key Bank parking lot we’ll head to the lake by way of Powerhouse Rd to Gleed, to Old Naches Hwy and then Old Stage Way and Selah-Naches Rd. over the hill.  From there we have a couple of options on how to get to North Wenas Rd. which takes us out to the lake via a gentle upgrade.  The private RV park has been very gracious in the past and allowed us to use their restrooms, refill water bottles and even let us purchase Gatorade and bottled water from their stash.  From the lake we will climb the Naches-Wenas Rd. and drop into Naches (restrooms & drinks available) and head back to Fred Meyer on South Naches Rd.  Some folks like to ride from Naches out to the  “Y” and then catch-up with the group, a nice little addition if you’re training for STP.

To Whistlin’ Jack & Back (4-24-10)

Host:  TBA
Distance:  Options of 25, 42 or ~80 miles
Departure Times: 6:45am from Fred Meyer parking lot by Starbucks (80 mi route); 8:00am from the “Y” (42 mi route) and ~8:20am from the Woodshed Restaurant (25 mi route).
Pace:  16-18 mph for the long route & 13-16 mph for the shorter routes
Terrain:  Flat in the beginning with mostly gentle upgrade; hill before WJ’s.

Join us on a beautiful ride up Chinook Pass to Whistling Jack’s Lodge.  Riders have three distance options:  Start early at Fred Meyer for ~80 miles, meet at the “Y” for ~42 miles, or join at the Woodshed Restaurant to make a 25 mile out and back trip.  Spouses and families invited to join us up at the lodge.  Frequently a slight headwind heading up to the lodge and a tailwind coming back.

First Century Ride to Thorp (5-1-10)

Distance:  100 miles
Departure Time:  6:00am from the Fred Meyer parking lot near Starbucks
Pace:  ~16 mph

Antonio Macias will lead cyclists on this 100 mile venture.  A ride for the well-conditioned, riders will depart the Fred Meyer parking lot near Starbucks at 6:00am.  Pace will be around 16 mph.  Riders will regroup once westbound on the way to Thorp, in Thorp, and then westbound on the return leg as well.  Coffee and pastries are available in Ellensburg westbound (optional), fruit & water is available in Thorp, and Gatorade is available eastbound on the return.  Bring a couple of power bars and money for the road; should return to Yakima about 1:15pm.  For questions, contact Antonio at amacias0038@charter.net

Monday Night Rides

Hosts: Carol M. and Linda B.
Departure:  5:30pm from Yakima Fitness (formerly Gold's Gym)
Route:  Konnowac Pass to top & back or Gap2Gap course; both about 23 miles.  With more evening<
light will try and complete entire Konnowac loop, ~30 miles.
Pace:  Variable, but generally ~13-16 mph average

Wednesday Night Rides (starting March 31st)

Hosts: Carla Andringa or MAC Board Member
Distance: 24 miles, Naches Loop
Departure: Leave Fred Meyer/Key Bank parking area at 5:30pm.  Pace is 12-16 mph.  Bring headlights & tail lights as we may be finishing at dusk (a road bike ride).

What once started with a few women riding the loop on Wednesdays, has grown into a large club ride. We’ll head west on Powerhouse Rd, cross Hwy 12 and pick-up Old Naches Hwy.  The large group usually splits into several smaller groups according to pace and regroups at the top of Rowe Hill.  We’ll continue on to Naches with flat and rolling terrain and regroup again at the Shell station, where restrooms and abundant snacks and drinks are available.  The return route is via South Naches Rd which is mostly flat with two small hills near the fish hatchery and Eschbach Park.  This is a very social ride with great opportunities to meet new riders and learn small group riding skills.  Bring a headlight & tail light.
